Abstract | The key object of formal schooling should be to give children confidence and ability to manage their own learning as an ongoing, lifelong activity. Educators must wean students from dependence on teachers and institutions and seek community-based resources and learning situations. The smallest classes and greatest teacher availability should be with younger children. Older, more responsible children should spend more time in nonclassroom learning environments. (MLH) |
